Fellow paint industry leader, Benjamin Moore, also has a Color & Design team that travels to 30 cities across 12 countries while attending more than 20 industry shows collecting photos and inspiration from the arts, pop culture, fashion, interior design, and other social influencers over the course of a year. The findings from their travels leading up to the naming of the 2018 Benjamin Moore Color of the Year "demonstrated an emergence of red hues, embodying the change, strength, confidence, and vitality that permeates cultural movements around the world". Hence, Caliente was named the Benjamin Moore 2018 Color of the Year.

Caliente presents as a "vibrant, charismatic shade of red" that is "strong, radiant, and full of energy". It is a color that "signals surprise and adventure".
Energy, surprise, and adventure seemed like just the right fit for the rec room in our #mcleanrenovation project. Our client had a number of young children and asked Laura for a total rec room make over. This particular space is where the family spent most of their time. They wanted a place to relax that also had plenty of storage for all of the kids toys.
Laura took that direction and added a lively pop of red in the accessories to play off the calming blue-greens and neutrals. It was the perfect mix of a relaxing space for the parents with a playful nod to the energy of the kids.

The color red has also long been used on front doors and is a beautiful way to extend a warm and joyous welcome to your guests. The below photo is a stunning example of how to incorporate the warmth and welcome of Caliente into the hugely popular farmhouse design style.
